Jackson Martin won last year's Voyles Classic with a time of 16:06. The heat index at the start of the race was well into the 90's and by the time the girls finished their 5k, it was likely in the 100s. Many runners after the race required medical attention. Weather patterns like these are normal for early September and have a track record of lasting well into Mid-October. Last week however, when runners in Tennessee, Alabama, and Virginia took to the start line they were greeted with overcast skies, mild temperatures, and perfect racing conditions. A dozen Tennessee boys ram under the sixteen minute barrier with 6 runners at Voyles alone beating the previous year's winning time previously mentioned including Martin himself. The defending Class AA/A State Champion placed 3rd to Brody Chapman and the other defending state champion Miles Ramer.
