Which State Meet Records Could Be Broken In 2022?

Girls Throws

For Mensi Stiff, it's not a matter of if but rather by how much. She's already opened her indoor season nearly three feet beyond her previous state record mark of 48-11. Wind conditions wouldn't affect shot put as much as it would discus. Assuming she has a fair day of wind in May, if she's already three feet beyond her shot put PR, you can imagine she's at least a similar percentage ahead of her fouled throw in discus which matched the state record on an unofficial measure after the competition.

Boys Throws

The boys is not as certain but certainly not beyond reach. The main thrower that turned some heads in indoor in Daniel Boone's Eli Penix. He's thrown right at 65 or better twice and has seventy in his sights. His school even extended their throwing pit to 72 feet this offseason to accommodate these distances.

Of the main returning throwers, he's been the most active this indoor season so it's hard to gauge anyone else's potential outside of their 2021 marks. While I would rate shot put as a "strong chance" of being broken I would rate discus slightly less certain as a "good chance" but it isn't so much a one man show. Penix comes back ranked second behind Father Ryan's Drake Carlson at 165-8 and behind them are the duo of Christian Brother's throwers BJ Robinson and Patrick Kutas who all return with marks over 155 feet. It's a strong crew of candidates to have and we just need one to improve by thirty feet.

As you can see, this group looks season ready to set the bar high.

Boys Pole Vault - 16' 6"

This one full rests on the shoulders of one vaulter, Franklin Road Academy's Payton Culp. My reservation is that while the three previous vaulters who have cleared 16 indoors, only one has been able to translate that success to the outdoor season and that's Harrison Williams, the current record holder. Culp will have to do that and more to at least tie this mark. Here's his final vault from Indoor State.
