Gautier Adds Six for 2009-10 Cross Country/Track Rosters University of Tennessee-Chatta Press Release Feb 15, 2009

 Chattanooga Head Coach Bill Gautier announced the signing of six outstanding additions to the men’s and women’s cross country and track teams for the 2009-10 season.

 

Heading up the class is Heather Stuive, one of Canada’s top distance runners. Stuive, from Eden High School in St. Catherine’s, Ontario, placed third in the Ontario Cross Country Championships last fall with a time of 18:02 in the 5000-kilometer. As a junior she was 12thoverall. She holds personal best times of 10:29 in the 3000-meter and 4:52 in the 1500-meter event.

 At the Nutter Fieldhouse in LexingtonKy., redshirt freshman Chris broke the UTC school record in the 3,000 meter and just missed an automatic qualification to the NCAA National Championship.

 

Berry finished third in the 3000m with a school-record time of 8:10.28, breaking the previous best by three seconds set by Steven Kocsis in 2005. He just missed qualifying for the NCAA National Championships by four second.

UTC Track Signs Thompson and Vasquez University of Tennessee-Chatta Press Release Feb 08, 2008

 

Emily Thompson and Joshue Vasquez signed to compete for the 2007-08 Chattanooga track and field team UTC head coach Bill Gautier announced Thursday.  

 

Thompson is a four-time All-State performer in cross country as well as a four-time All-State performer in Track and Field. She has personal best times of 18:17.81 in the cross country 5K; 5:10.51 in the 1600 meter; 11:12.96 in the 3200 meter and 2:22.32 in the 800 meter.

 

Vasquez of Kingsport, Tenn., is a three-time cross country all-state and three-time all-region performer for Dobyns-Bennett High School. He claimed the region title in cross country for two consecutive years and claimed the region title in the 1600 meter run in track to claim all-region honors.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Kathleen Turchin, in her first race this season, led the Lady Mocs to a fifth place finish out of 28 teams in the Gold Division at the Greater Louisville Cross Country Classic Saturday morning at E.P.“Tom” Sawyer Park.

 

Turchin, a cross country All-American, finished 11th in a time of 17:34.76 in the 5K race featuring 239 runners. Teammate Shelley Taylor’s 18:03.40 mark placed her 21st as Chattanooga placed all six runners in the top 60.

 

Katie Williams was 47th at 18:39.23 and rookie Tara Gietma was the Lady Mocs’ fourth finisher at 50th in a time of 18:40.07 while senior Nettie Halcomb rounded out the scoring at 56th, running the course in a time of 18:51.31. Freshman Jordyn Radke finished 59th for the Lady Mocs in a time of 18:55.48.

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. -- Michael Mentz and David Moore placed in the top 10 in the men’s 5K race at the Western Kentucky Paul Turner Old Timers Classic while Shelly Taylor was ninth in the women’s race.

 

Mentz, a senior from Bloemfontein, South Africa, placed fifth in a time of 25:29.86, just 33 seconds off the top place finisher, Jacob Korir of Eastern Kentucky while Moore, redshirt freshman, was 15 seconds behind in eighth place. Senior Jeff Taylor and freshman Chris Berry were 13th and 14threspectively. Freshman Stuart Chandler was 24th for the Mocs at 26:39.23.

Turchin, a cross country All-American, ran a personal best time of 16:25.27 climbing toward the front of the pack as the race drew to a close. Mentz ran the race in a time of 8:33.32 in the Invitational race of 21 runners. Jeff Taylor, with a time of 8:42.28 was 11th in the race. In the men's 3000m open race, Kevin Huwe placed 16th with a time of 9:08.48.

Kathleen Turchin, who missed every cross country race except the Southern Conference championships, returned to the track Friday. She finished second in the unseeded women's Mile Run at 5:10.25.

Nettie Halcomb placed fifth in the women's Mile Run Invitational and Tim Clark took sixth in the men's Mile Run Open Saturday at the Indiana Relays at Gladstein Fieldhouse.

Halcomb ran the event in 5:01.67, two seconds off her Southern Confernce leading time. She was five seconds out of first.

Clark finished sixth in the men's open Mile Run with a time of 4:18.66, six seconds off the league-leading time of 4:12.77 held by teammate Michael Mentz.
