University of Tennessee at Chattanooga's Kathleen Turchin qualified for the women's 5,000 meter finals after finishing 10th in her preliminary heat Wednesday night at the NCAA Division I Track and Field Championships in Sacramento, Calif.
Turchin, a junior from Sugar Hill, Ga., finished with a school record time of 16:19.74 and was the 16th and final runner to qualify for 5,000 meter finals, which will be held Friday night at 11:10 p.m. EDT.
Turchin's UTC teammate Lanni Marchant, a senior from London, Ontario, Canada, is also competing in the NCAA championships inCalifornia. Marchant will compete Thursday night at 11:40 EDT in the finals of the women's 10,000 meter run.
