CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – Emily Thompson and Joshue Vasquez signed to compete for the 2007-08 Chattanoogatrack and field team UTC head coach Bill Gautier announced Thursday.
Thompson of Scottsboro High School in Alabama is a four-time state champion and helped lead Scottsboro to four team state cross country championships. Last fall she claimed the Alabama Cross Country title and has a personal best of 18:17.81 in the 5K event. She won the 3200 meter title last spring at the state championships and was a member of the two-time state title 4x800 meter relay team.
Thompson is a four-time All-State performer in cross country as well as a four-time All-State performer in Track and Field. She has personal best times of 18:17.81 in the cross country 5K; 5:10.51 in the 1600 meter; 11:12.96 in the 3200 meter and 2:22.32 in the 800 meter.
Vasquez of Kingsport, Tenn., is a three-time cross country all-state and three-time all-region performer for Dobyns-BennettHigh School. He claimed the region title in cross country for two consecutive years and claimed the region title in the 1600 meter run in track to claim all-region honors.
His personal records are 15:35.00 in cross country; 4:24.99 in the 1600 meter and 9:47.81 in the 3200 meter.
Anneli Uys of Somerville, Australia, transferred from the University of Memphis at the start of the spring semester and will run middle distances for the Lady Mocs. Uys competed last season for the Tigers in the 800 and the 1500 meter races and is a member of the school record holding Distance Medley Relay team.
Prior to Memphis, Uys won three Victoria State Championships in the 400-, 800- and 1500-meter races. She finished second at the Australian Nationals in the 800 and 1500 meter races for two consecutive years.
She will have to sit out one year due to transfer rules.
Freshman Adam Cunningham transferred to Chattanooga from Middle Tennessee. He was All-State in the Mile Run as a senior at BlackmanHigh School in Murfreesboro. His personal records are 4:24.43 in the Mile and 1:58.93 in the 800 meter.
