Four Mocs Top 10 at Yellow Jacket Invitational

 

ATLANTA, Ga. -- Four Chattanooga track athletes claimed top 10 spots Saturday at the Yellow Jacket Invitational hosted by Georgia Tech.

Michael Mentz finished fifth in the men's 1500-meter run with a time of 3:51.50, just over two seconds off of
Tennessee's Tyler Devault's top time of 3:49.19.

Tim Clark placed 11th in the event at 3:56.64 while David Moore finished 21st with a time of 4:00.74 in the race featuring 35 runners from ACC and SEC schools. Jeff Taylor placed 12th in the men's 5000-meter run in a time of 15:26.69.

In the women's events, Katie Williams and Emily Wood each placed sixth in their respective events. Williams finished the 5000m run in 17:53.10 while Wood's time of 2:15.84 was just five seconds out of first place in the 800m race. Jamie Dinkins was 21st in the 30-person event at 2:24.07.

Kathleen Turchin was ninth in the women's 1500m run in a time of 4:39.72. Nettie Halcomb placed 14th at 4:41.43 and Sabrina Lefort was two places behind at 4:44.79. Shelley Taylor placed 20th in the race at 4:48.97.

In the men's 800m run, Blake Ketron was 12th at 1:55.17 and Jordan Longstreth was a little more than one second behind at 1:56.55 in 17th place. Ryan Crews and Michael Billingsly were 22nd and 23rd at 1:58.45, just thousandths of a second different in time.

Amanda Alexander was the lone sprinter, finishing 27th in the women's 400m dash at 1:00.76.

The Yellow Jacket Invitational featured teams from the SEC including
Tennessee, Georgia, Kentucky,Auburn and Vanderbilt and ACC schools Wake Forest Clemson and host Georgia Tech. Also competing wereConnecticut, Georgia State Middle Tennesse, Tulane and Wisconsin.

Marchant Earns Provisional Qualification

 

STANFORD, Calif. -- Senior distance runner Lanni Marchant earned a provisional qualification to the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in the 10,000 meter race Saturday at the Stanford Invitational.

Marchant finished 19th out of 26 runners in the Section 1 race in a time of 34:18.67, within the 35:00 time needed for a provisional qualification. She placed ahead of Northern Arizona's Nicole Gueldmeister and Katie Van Horn of
Tennessee.

Marchant won the college race last year at Stanford and placed 15th at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. This year, the
London, Ontario senior competed against runners looking to qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Championships as well as Olympic hopefuls.
