Key Takeaways From 2023 CCS FastBreak Invitational

When I saw the calendar at the beginning of the season, this weekend was setting up to be a coverage nightmare. Houston Track Classic in the West, Volunteer Track Classic in the East,  and CCS Fastbreak sandwiched in the middle with a host of other meets in Middle Tennessee. After VTC was postponed due to the Orange and White scrimmage, it left teams scrambling to find competition outside of Knoxville and most descended on Chattanooga for one of the first weekends of the season we had favorable weather conditions in the state end to end and athletes on Saturday took advantage of that.

Hubbard Sweeps Hurdles

This is a situation of "why don't I know who this is?" It's hard to stand out in the hurdles this year with Tharp chasing a state record every week but after Zayshun Hubbard of Tyner Academy swept the hurdle events on Saturday, he now has my attention.

Though his 15.09 is was not a PR (his best time is 14.82) it's still better than every other runner in his division which should give him a lot of confidence moving forward in an event he placed 3rd in last season. He also sits atop the 300's, an event he didn't even qualify for state in last season, after Saturday with a 40.30.
