Middle School Winners
Speaking of Grand Rapids Track Club, if they're graduating any seniors into next season they will have no problem filling that vacancy as Stephanie DiPiazza is ready to fill it. The 8th grader won the Middle School race with an 11:31 beating the reigning Tennessee Middle School State Champion in the process. On the boys side, Owen Munn of The Covenant School (North Carolina) covered the 2 mile course in 10:21 en route to a 13 second victory.
After viewing her profile, it's obvious why she isn't nervous about the 5k. She already has a 19-Flat to her name in four attempts this season. I was not able to track down Owen Munn for interview.
All in all, this is a great event Jay Tippens has put together for a subset of the running community that does not, at times, get the same amount of coverage as the scholastic competitions. Hope to expand coverage for HXN as bandwidth allows in the years to come.
