Last season, Brentwood scored over half of their 73 points with wins in four events. This season, with only one event win, they were almost able to reach their previous year's total and here's how.

One thing to note about these two teams right off the bat is they're both very young. Neither team will lose an athlete to graduation next year who scored an individual point on May 26th. While they have the same profile in those regards, their difference lies in the range of events they're able to score in. I broke their point totals down even further to illustrate this.

Even though the Warriors were able to notch victories in the 4x100m and 4x200m relays, the Bruins were able to counter those points with a runner up finish in the 4x400m relay, a 4th place finish by Sophie Yount in the 200m dash, another 4th place finish in the 4x200m relay, and another runner up finish (below) by Logan Brownfield in the 400m dash.
Logan Brownfield finished 2nd in the 400m dash with a 57.16. It was a half second PR on her previous best run at Great Eight earlier in the season.
Combine these sprint scoring capabilities with a state champion cross country program and there really is no event on the track you won't be able to score in. However, as was the case last year for Brentwood, their x-factor came in the form of multi-eventers. Hollan Powers did most of the heavy lifting last season scoring 36.5 points total. This year, that load was distributed between Sophie Yount and Kiersten Bell who placed 2nd and 3rd in the pentathlon respectively and combined for 32.5 total points collectively. Coach Fedoris elaborates:
"How you replace Hollan Powers is you get two of them."
Brentwood has an obvious path forward to making it three in a row next season. Memphis Central has the firepower to contend but will need to find a way to stretch their sprinters and hurdlers farther than they already are.
