Week 1 Highlights: Dekalb, Collierville, Siegel, Hume-Fogg

Collierville Shines in Alabama

This meet wasn't on my radar since it didn't show up on our calendar but I fixed that after the fact. The Dragons put 7 Girls under 22 Minutes with less than a minute spread between them. Only one of their top 7 is a senior and NO JUNIORS so looking down the road, if this group can improve year over year, they could be a serious contender in 2023. The Collierville boys also claimed victory with a strong spread 1-5.

Siegel Sweeps Seeded Heats

Had the rain held off, the girl's heat would've been a great race of a lot of contenders but since it wasn't, it became an opportunity for Kyra Hayes to showcase her talent and the gap between her and the rest of the field was apparent from the start. The senior ran a solo 11:17 full two mile while, lapping the fiend and running part of every 2nd curve in lane 2 as lane one was under inches of water. On the boy's side, Caleb Jarrett fended off a strong challenge from Beech's Ethan Lanning on his way to a 9:45 and a victory. Jarrett is the last remaining remnant from Siegel's last state championship team but did not run Cross Country last season. He's a big shot in the arm for a team that has aspirations to return to the top of the podium.
