Top Athletes:
David Ahlmeyer - Beech High School
As expected in the Large School Division I, any of the 6 favorites coming in could have won. Through the first mile they were packed together. By the second mile the pack had dwindled to 3. By the gate, Renfree and Ahlmeyer had separated themselves from the rest but by the finish Renfree separated himself from Ahlmeyer. Nevertheless, David bettered his time from last season by 15 seconds and improved upon his 3rd place finish in 2017 to finish 2nd. His time of 15:40 was also the second fastest time of the day across all classifications. David has committed to run for Furman in the fall.
Landri Wilcox - Cookeville High School
Landri improved on her time from last season by almost thirty seconds but unfortunately did not improve upon her runner up placing. This race will be one to watch for many years to come as the top ten has five freshmen and two sophomores. She's in a bit of a "no man's land" with a 20 second gap between Hutchins and the challengers behind her which isn't a bad place to be but we'll have to wait and see if she challenges for that number one spot over the next two years.
Andrew Cox - Franklin Road Academy
Cox defined what it means to peak on Saturday. While other high caliber runners and schools traveled the country chasing the fastest course in the southeast, Andrew raced at Steeplechase FOUR times before the state meet and every time he raced there he improved.
