King College Cross Country teams opened the 2007 season with a pair of wins on Saturday September 8th. at the Tusculum Invitation in Greeneville. The men’s team led by freshman Daniel Hamilton of Franklin NC, had a perfect score of 15. Jeremy Faulk and Derick Parker followed close behind at 27:56 and 28:03. Joseph Pair, Adam Hawthorne and Josh Brewer followed for King in a close pack on ly 15 seconds apart.
The King Women followed the men with a lopsided win over Tusculum and AAC rival Tennessee Wesleyan. Newcomer Amy Wallace was the first Tornado across the line running 18:24 in the race that was marred by misdirection and confusing course markings. Carrie Nelson, Helania Masters, and Solange Adams packed in tight behind Amy with only 20 seconds separating the four. 35 seconds later Emily Felty led in the remained of King’s top seven, Beredu Teressa and Brittany Henderson.
“I was very pleased with our performances today. The plan was to stay in control throughout the race and to choose difficulty in the later stages when the real racing begins and that’s what we did. Both men and women teams are much improved over last year and it’s great to see some new faces moving to the front.” – Coach Murrell
King will return to action on Friday September 21 at the Lenoir-Rhyne Invitationla.
