(Saturday, November 19th, 2005, Louisville, Ky.) - The Virginia Intermont College Men\'s Cross-Country team doubled their pleasure Saturday, when they ran to their second consecutive team title, topping runner-up Concordia University (Irvine, Cal.) 52-122. Leading the way for the Cobras was freshman Steeve Gabart (Miami, Florida), running to a 9th place finish of 24:54.65, for the 8,000 meter course. Following Steeve into the finish were junior Pat Marion (Ottawa, Ontario) in 14th place (25:02.70), sophomore Ondrej Puskar (Trnava, Slovakia) in 15th place (25:03.10), freshman Jeremy Cadle (Charlottesville, Va.) in 18th place (25:04.70), and senior James Mousseau (Killdeer, N.D.) in 21st place (25:06.80). The top-5 finishers for VI all earned All-American honors for their top-30 finishes.

USA Track & Field has announced the Team USA for the North American 5 km Team Challenge, hosted by the Arturo Barrios Invitational in Chula Vista, Calif., on October 23. The U.S. team will be competing against teams from Canada, the 2004 team champions and Mexico for a total prize purse of $25,000. Each team will be represented by 6 athletes, 3 men and 3 women, scoring the top two times for each sex from each team. The winning team will receive $12,000, second place $6,000 and third $3000.

Mudasar Haidat, a freshman at Virginia Intermont College, won the Country Music Half Marathon in Nashville, Tn. this weekend, qualifying for the NAIA national championships marathon. Haidat, a native of Arlington, Va., bested a field of nearly 12,000 runners with an automatic qualifying mark of 1:10:05. Haidat, who is also qualified in the 10,000-meters, will compete in the marathon for VIC at the NAIA outdoor track national championships in Louisville, Ky. on May 28th.

Mountain High Running Camp, a camp for high school cross country runners in Bristol, Virginia, will once again offer a number of full tuition scholarships to camp. The camp dates are July 11-16 and July 18-23. The camp is for middle and high schoolers of all abilities age 13-18, and features a staff of elite US, Kenyan and International runners along with internationally successful coaches.
