Eastern Relays

A meet like Eastern Relays is a competition that attracts a lot of the best talent from the Midwest and Southeast. In particular, a lot of high caliber distance runners will target this meet as one they want to PR at. However, if you were anywhere along the I-65 corridor on Friday, the relentless rain dampened some of those expectations but didn't make it impossible. In the second heat of the boys 3200m, the top two Tennesseans managed to do just that. Independence's Nate Martinez placed 2nd in the heat with a 9:25, 11 second better than his previous best, and Webb School of Knoxville's Colin Eckerman, who has never broken 10:00 before in his career, placed third with a 9:26! Eckerman now complicates things even more in Division II Class AA East as the region, that was already full of depth, now has seven of the Top 10 times in the 3200 meter run with Eckerman now sitting 5th in the division.

While I could spend a moment to talk about all the high school athletes from East Tennessee that ran in this meet, the result that stands out the most comes from the Tennessean that traveled the furthest to get there. Page Middle School's Connor Fysh placed 6th overall in the Middle School Elite Mile running 4:44.95. Though we don't spend a lot of time talking about Middle School or their rankings (we're working on improving our efforts with both) this is currently the #2 overall Middle School 1600m for 2023. I anticipate we'll see Fysh in a month in Clarksville for the TMSAA State Championship.
