The defending Division I Class AA state champion in the 100m and 200m dash Avia Lane made her debut in her new colors on Thursday night winning the 100m dash at the Battle of 109 with a 12.52 for Beech. While there was no official wind reading, I can confirm it was significantly in the negative direction down the homestretch. With the graduation of Whisper Thomas, Class AAA and Section 3 in particular were there for the taking in the short sprints. I anticipate a strong head to head battle with club teammate Kymora-Lee Williams and possibly Sophie Yount depending on how she spends her four events.

Based on some brief research, the last time a Father Ryan sprinter or sprint relay team won a state championship was 2015. That year they won the 4x200m relay and this year it seems like it may be one of their better chances at a championship again. On Friday, they won the Nashville Track And Field Championship in the event with a 1:30.05. The weekend before, they set a new school record with a 1:28.07 at Doug Hall. With that time they currently rank third behind McCallie and Christian Brothers. If not the relay, Charlie Becker and Ryan Jones currently sit atop the division in the 300m hurdles and 400m dash respectively. Becker won the event on Friday becoming the first in the classification this season under 40.
