What Stands Out
Last year, Central Magnet and Signal Mountain were reunited through reclassification and did not disappoint. The Tigers narrowly defeated the Eagles by three points ending Signal's four-year run of state titles. This year it appears Coach Carpenter is on track to bring the title back to Chattanooga. The Eagles graduated zero scoring runners from 2021 while the Tigers graduated the overall champion and runner up. Those top two positions may be reserved for newcomers to the class as Abi Cobb is now at Liberty Creek and Kyrian Sychareune is a freshman at Hume-Fogg who is closer to overtaking Central to claim second than Central is to Signal to claim first. Beyond the top three the biggest surprise is Volunteer. They finished 2021 ranked 13th and are currently 4th off strong improvements year over year from Jacie Begley and Allyssa Gent.
