2021 TSSAA State XC Meet Recap: Division II Class AA Boys

Division II Class AA Boys

The Race Highlights

The Individual Race

How special is the Class of 2025? Consider this article published a couple weeks ago. The fastest time ran by anyone in the Class of 2022 as a freshman was 16:31. Only five total were under the seventeen-minute mark. The Class of 2025 has eight under that barrier, three of them were in this race, and of those three, two of them had run under 15:30. Knox Catholic's Keegan Smith and McCallie's Jack Bowen Rank #1 and #4 Nationally with a 14:53 by Smith and a 15:22 by Bowen. All eyes were on these freshmen coming into the race and from gun, Smith made sure of that.

Even though this tweet says "after 1," he amassed at least 30 meters of that lead before the half mile mark and would only extend it from there ultimately running solo for the entirety of the race crossing the finish line 24 seconds ahead of the closest competitor.

Knox Catholic did not have a Male Cross Country State Champion until 2016 but since have crowned three, Georde Goodwyn, Jake Renfree, and now Keegan Smith.

Even though the freshmen made all the headlines, the sophomore class in this division cannot be overlooked. Five Class of 2024 runners placed in the top ten of this race with Luke Thompson of Brentwood Academy capturing runner up honor for the second year in a row.

Overall, underclassmen make up eleven of the top thirteen finishers. Like the girls, this division is going to be very deep and very talented next season.
