Analysis:

For the last four year cycle, Region 2 has a better claim to the title of Region of Death based on both metrics. It's pretty obvious that in a single given year, Region 4 can boast the lowest score but they are extremely top heavy with their third place team average being the worst of these five we examined. What I think most people will see as a shocker is Region 8 (Bartlett, Houston, etc...) coming in with the second best cumulative score. Though only four teams consistently represent the region, getting top three in Memphis looks to be just as difficult as anywhere in Middle or East.

Something to consider moving forward as we enter a new classification cycle is Central Magnet is no longer in Region 4 AAA, Maryville is no longer in Region 2 and has moved to Region 3, and 2017 was the first year after the "Brentwood Break Up." Perhaps after a couple more years of sustained rebuilding by the Bruins, Region 6 could take that mantle back.

Houston and Bartlett are both in contention again this season after finishing 3rd and 8th respectively last season.
