Week 5 Highlights: Southern Showcase, NC Meets

Meets in North Carolina

So last week in the team rankings article I said, "there's a tier in Division I AAA of three teams that I think can win the state championship and none of them are currently ranked in the top 3." After this weekend, the tier may just be Hardin Valley.

The Hawks just put five runners between 15:58 and 16:15 with number 7 coming in at 16:29. Full results here

The other team I think could play spoiler is Farragut, who quietly on a Friday night in Boone, NC did this.

Not sure when these two will finally face off before region but I imagine it'll be KIL and it'll tell us a lot beyond just comparing what we can see on paper.

The other team that had an impressive weekend in North Carolina was Daniel Boone who ran at the adidas XC Challenge in Cary, NC. Teammates Conner Wingfield and Levi Streeval went 1-2 in the race with times of 15:19 and 15:22 respectively. Their supporting cast is solid but the spread right now is just too large for them to overcome the depth other teams have. They echoed that in this interview.

This was Wingfield's second victory of the season with his only other finish being a narrow runner up last weekend.
