McCallie School
"As of right now, McCallie is the most complete team in the state in a duel format. They may just be the best team in the state period. Whatever momentum the program gained from winning the cross country title this season is carrying them into the early part of track season."

And as it turns out, it carried them all the way to the end of the season as well. May 26th, 2021 marked the first time in McCallie School's 116-year history the Blue Tornadoes have been able to call themselves TSSAA Track and Field State Champions. Let's take a look at how they did it:

The final tally between the two schools was 164 - 146 and on
paper it would appear pretty straight forward. "Ah see, McCallie had more
events with multiple scorers and that's why they won" but as Wednesday rolled
along, CBHS and McCallie each seemingly traded punches event over event.
CBHS wins the shot, McCallie wins the Triple.
CBHS goes 1st and 3rd in Disc, McCallie goes 2nd and 3rd in Vault.
CBHS win the 4x8, McCallie goes 1st and 2nd in the 110m Hurdles.

This went on all day where Christian Brothers really lost ground was before we even got to Wednesday to begin with. Between Michael May, Nicolas Robinson, and Eric Rivers, McCallie scored 21 points in the Decathlon. Christian Brothers scored 0. No matter how many body blows Christian Brothers seemed to land, McCallie always had a response and at the end of the meet, the deficit was too large to overcome.

I jokingly asked Coach Wood if now would be an ideal moment to retire but if you watched this longer interview from midseason, he seems to enjoy the sport too much to walk away from just yet.
