Bids to host the 2009 and 2010 BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee football championships were due in the state office by May 1, 2009.  The information was sent to every city that expressed interest.  These cities included Memphis, Nashville, Chattanooga, Murfreesboro, Cookeville, Knoxville, and Johnson City.  Three cities submitted bids to host the championships. They were Cookeville, Chattanooga, and Murfreesboro.  Members of the TSSAA staff, along with Larry Counts, visited each city that submitted bids.  This gave us an opportunity to tour the facilities, ask questions, and express any concerns to the individuals scheduled to be in charge, should the championships be held in their city.  After visiting each city and carefully considering each proposal, Bernard Childress and Larry Counts met with the three-person committee (Fred Kessler, Bryan True, and Lynn Brown) selected by the Board of Control to discuss each proposal.  Positives and negatives of each proposal were discussed in detail.

Representatives from each of these cities will be given an opportunity to discuss any parts of their proposal and answer any questions the Board may have.

The three cities will be given 30 minutes each to make their proposals and answer any questions the Board may have.  The schedule for proposals is as follows:

2:00 – Chattanooga
2:30 – Cookeville
3:00 – Murfreesboro

19. Spring Fling Bids for 2010 and 2011

Bid packages to host the 2010 and 2011 BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee Spring Fling were sent to those cities that expressed interest the second week in May.  Proposals are due in the state office by July 13, 2009.  We will follow the same process to determine which city should host Spring Fling as was followed during the football bidding process.  Members of the TSSAA staff, along with Larry Counts, will visit each city that submits a legitimate proposal and report back to the committee appointed by the Board of Control.  Representatives of each city submitting a proposal will have an opportunity to discuss their proposal at the August meeting prior to the Board making their selection.
