FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Tennessee State Indoor Championships Is Back!
12/9/14 - Knoxville, TN
It has been over 35 years since Tennessee has held official or unofficial state high school indoor track and field championships. Neighboring states Alabama, North Carolina and Virginia all hold state indoor championships. With high schools and clubs in the state of Tennessee investing more time developing an indoor season for their sprinters, jumpers and throwers, Tennessee track and field athletes are better prepared to preform well during what is a very short outdoor season. Combine this with two well-established indoor track meets, the KYA High School Indoor Track Classic and the KYA-NYA Vanderbilt High School Indoor Invitational and you have the foundation to put a state meet on the launching pad.
Mark your calendars for 2/28/15 – ETSU’s David E. Walker Indoor Track, Johnson City, TN – as we present the Tennessee State Indoor Track and Field Championships. This one-day championship meet will feature 24 athletes per event including relays. Athletes will auto qualify by being one of the top 8 Tennessee finishers in either the KYA High School Indoor Track Classic (1/16-17/15 – Johnson City) or the KYA-NYA Vanderbilt High School Invitational (1/31/15 - Nashville). The remaining 8 athletes will be selected from the eight best marks outside of the auto qualifiers during the 2015 indoor season.
Meet director Marty Sonnenfeldt says that the format strengthens the significance of being a state champ. “ With no separation of classes by school size the best 24 in each event line up to compete for the title”. “The winner can truly call themselves the best in the state.” Sonnenfeldt said. Stay tuned to the Meet Webpage and to tn.milesplit.com for updates and qualifier lists starting 1/18/15.
