After a concussion forced him to give up the sport of football as a tenth grader, Daniel Haugh quickly found a new sport which he was the one doing the pounding in throwing metal implements great distances in the throwing events of track & field. In a two year span, Haugh has elevated himself to be the nation's best in the weight throw. Last month, the St. Pius X High School senior and member of the incredibly successful Throw 1 Deep club, launched a US #1 mark of 78'5" at the KYA High School Indoor Classic in Johnson City, Tennessee. The Knoxville Youth Athletics will be hosting its second annual USATF (USA Track and Field) track and field officials certification clinic at East Tennessee State University. The clinic will be held on Sunday, January 19 from 1-6 PM at the MSHA Center on ETSU’s Campus wrapping up a weekend full of track and field action at ETSU. Friday and Saturday will find the MSHA center ground zero for the Niswonger College Invitational and the Knoxville Youth Athletics High School Indoor Classic which will bring together as many as 2000 college and high school track and field athletes.
Knoxville Youth Athletics is proud to announce the date for the 2014 KYA High School Indoor Track Classic to be held in conjunction with the Niswonger College Invite, January 17-18, 2014. The meet will be held on the campus of East Tennessee State University at the ETSU/MSHA Athletic Center. This two day High School meet featured numerous US Top 10 performances in 2013 and has become one of the great early season high school indoor meets in the South.
