The South Plains College Lady Texans track and field team won the NJCAA Region V championship Saturday while competing at the Oliver Jackson Relays in Abilene.
There were no point totals kept at this weekend\'s Oliver Jackson Open, hosted by Abilene Christian University, but the Wildcats still came out winners.

When a hip injury sidelined St. Mark\'s track star Shawn Schmidt late last spring, he got a break from the daily rigors of training. For five months, he lived the dream of many teenagers, watching television, playing video games, vegging out. He hated it.
Congratulations to Brandon Washington (Fort Bend Marshal) and Sandy Wooten (Mineral Wells) for ROW honors. Brandon won the 400m in a quick 47.8 and came back and anchored his team in a 4x4 victory in a time of 3:19. Sandy had a very impressive 100/400 double. Both times lead the state in their events.
