Virginia Tech\'s track & field teams host the Virginia Tech Invitational starting on Friday, Jan 14 through Saturday, Jan. 15 on a 200 meter banked track inside the Rector Fieldhouse on the Tech campus.
Virginia Tech\'s Director of Track & Field, Dave Cianelli, announces the addition of Stacey Vidt to the coaching staff. Vidt, a Tech alum, begins her coaching career this winter as the assistant distance coach. She replaces Mary Jayne Harrelson who is now training full-time in Tennessee for competitions.
Greg Jack begins his fourth season at Virginia Tech as the new associate head men\'s track and field coach. The past three years Jack has been the Hokie throws coach. The Virginia Tech track & field teams began the 2004-05 indoor season with four Hokies breaking school records and four athletes qualifying for the NCAA Championships at the Clemson Opener on Friday and the VMI Invitational today. At the Clemson Opener, Spyridon Jullien (Jr., Athens, Greece) won the men\'s weight throw competition with an NCAA automatic mark of 71\'11\". He also broke his own school record and set a new personal best and Clemson indoor track & field facility record in the throw.

Freshman Jessica Fanning (Charlottesville, Va.) was the first Hokie to cross the finish line in the six kilometer women's race in eighth place out of the 245 runner field with a time of 21:04.7. Fanning had the only Tech top-ten finish of the day.
