In an excellent early season test, the 2005 Memphis Twilight Girls Varsity Meet resulted in a formidable Scottsboro, AL (# 1 in the NTN Southeast rankings) winning easily over in-state rival Hoover and surprising third place finisher Harpeth Hall. Tupelo MS, ranked # 9 in the NTN South rankings finished fourth.
Scottsboro's Caitlin Chitwood and Lacey Wright led from the very beginning and ended up first and second, with 9th grader Chitwood clocking 17:58. Rita Jorgensen of White Station nipped Claire Corban of Tupelo at the finish line for third. Beginning at the half mile mark the two frontrunners slowly pulled away from the chase pack and won easily. Besides Jorgensen, other TN runners in the top ten were Glory Beveridge of Harpeth Hall (6th) , Virginia Hine of White Station (7th) and Renae Van Wyhe of Collierville (10th).
Rob Sorrell from Bolton won the boys race with the second fastest time in the state this year a 15:01. Tom Divinnie from Brentwood finished second overall with a time of 15:04. Other Tennessee runners finishing in the top ten were Alex Harris, Ken Haltom, Donald McClure, and Sean Keveren,
