Greeneville Runner Asks For Sock Donations In Wake Of Helene

Hurricane Helene

On Friday, I posted an article updating the Tennessee running community of meet cancellations or postponements due to the effects of Hurricane Helene. At the time, the full scope of the catastrophe was not fully realized. Helene impacted Eastern Tennessee and Western North Carolina primarily through heavy rainfall and strong winds. The storm caused localized flooding, leading to road closures and damage to infrastructure. Houses were washed off their foundations. Many lost everything.

On Saturday, the TMSAA State Cross Country Championship will take place in Clarkesville and one runner from one of these affected communities is asking for your help.

Bring Socks

Maggie Moore is a 7th grader at Greeneville Middle School and won the Class AA Section 1 race on September 24th. Four days later she was without running water. In spite of all this, she still intends to race on Saturday but would like to use her trip to Clarkesville to ask for your help in helping those in her community. From her mother Nicolle Moore:

Greeneville Middle School student Maggie Moore will be collecting socks at the Middle School XC State Championship in Clarksville to support those affected by Helene in East Tennessee. Her community has been without water, and many have lost their homes. Maggie hopes to make her trip about more than just running by giving back. She's asking all teams to consider donating new socks, which she will bring back to help those in need. As you aim for your personal best at the race, please bring a pack of socks to make a difference for the victims of this crisis.

Your support will make a big difference for our community in need. Thank you so much for your kindness!

Though she does not race until noon, the Moore's intend on being there for the Class A races as well.

If you are not able to make it to Clarksville and would like to support, you can contribute through this AMAZON WISHLIST.

Hopefully we can send them back to Greeneville with a van full of socks.
