Thirteen State Meet Records Go Down At TMSAA Championships

Class A Boys

Boys High Jump

Last year, Alcoa's Jamir Dean won the Class A High Jump competition but it only took a clearance of 5-6. This year, he needed a full six feet as the competition was much steeper. Kahlil Kibble of John P. Freeman cleared 5-10 to place runner up and both jumpers exceeded the previous record of 5-8.  This was Dean's third time to clear the six foot barrier this season.

Boys 100m Dash

Memphis Business Academy's Khamoni Williams swept the short sprints on Saturday in Class A winning both the 100m and 200m dash events with a record time in the 100m dash of 11.49. The previous record was 11.57. He also anchored the MBA's 4x200m team to a runner up finish which bring us to the next record that was broken in Class A.

Boys 4x200m Relay

As stated last week, this was the first year Metro Nashville Public Schools would be participating as a TMSAA school at this meet and the team from Jere Baxter Middle wasted no time making an impact on the meet. The team of Mallory Porter, Marianta Water, Ja'Quan Howse, and Daylan Hardy fended off a surging MBA anchored by the previously mentioned Williams en route to a new class record in the event of 1:37.94. Both them and MBA ran under the previous record set just last year of 1:38.56.

Boys 400m Dash

I didn't realize this at the time, but Delle Hughes false started in the 100m open earlier in the meet on Saturday. That's may explain the extra motivation that propelled him to a new state record in the 400m dash. His 52.36 lowers the previous record by almost half a second that was set by Quincy Briggs in 2018. Briggs would go on to break a high school state record at Memphis Central in the 4x200m dash. Not at all bad company to be mentioned with at all.
