Basketball Players In Track & Field Were A Slam Dunk In 2022

Upper Cumberland Take Home Golds In Field

In the Upper Cumberland, Girl's Basketball is a year round sport but several players from this area have had an impact in the field at state for the last couple of season.

Freshman Reese Beaty of York Institute won the Division I Class A Shot Put competition with a throw of 42-8.25 which was the third farthest throw in the state last season. It was a back to back sweep for the Beaty family as older sister Gabby Beaty won the title in the event in 2021. Gabby placed 2nd last year in the discus as well but unfortunately was dealing with a knee injury and threw through the pain in May and finished 5th and 6th this season. Both sisters will be back this year with Reese as the #2 overall shot putter in the state and Gabby the 15th.

Top Returning Girls Shot Putters In 2023

Just south of Jamestown on State Highway 127 is Clarkrange where Mattie Bush splits time between the hardwood and the runway in the spring. In 2021 the now senior placed 5th in the triple jump but came back this spring to take the Class A crown in the event just a year later.

Bush's 35-9.5 was a year over year improvement by almost two feet. She also placed 3rd in the long jump with a jump of 16-11. She'll return as the #11 overall triple jumper this season right after basketball season of course.
