2022 Moments of the Year
To finish off 2022, we're going to countdown the MileSplit TN Top 10 Moments of the Year. As you'll see throughout the countdown, last year was filled with incredible drama, can't miss racing, and record breaking performances. Enjoy. Check back in between now and January 1st, 2023 for all the moments that made the year unforgettable.
Four Time In 2 Months
The records have stood since 1984. Angie Barker of Elizabethton set both the shot put and discus records almost 40 years ago and it wasn't until last spring that she did not own both. Brentwood Academy's Mensi Stiff broke the shot put record at state in 2021 and since has improved on this mark three times ending with a throw of 51-8.25 in Oregon this summer. The discus record of 155-08 remained in tact for another year and when it finally broke, each pervious mark would not stand for very long and at one point, neither Baker or Stiff held it.
Record Breaking Throws
- April 28th, 2022 - Great Eight Invitational: Mensi Stiff, 157-05
- May 11th, 2022 - DII AA Middle Region: Mensi Stiff, 160-00
- May 12th, 2022 - Section 3 AAA Championship - Reghan Grimes, 161-07
Reghan Grimes' best coming into the Section 3 meet was 148-5 she had thrown a couple weeks earlier at Great Eight however she felt like the throw had been in her for a while. The record would stand through state as the condition in Murfreesboro a couple weeks later would not favor any one trying to throw their best.
So the State Meet Record still stands in spite of both girls laying claim to the All-Time record just weeks prior but as the post-season events continued and Grimes went on to join the Tennessee Tech basketball program, Stiff took the All-Time record back on June 19th in Eugene, Oregon with a toss of 162-10. Since, Stiff has gone on to sign with Ole Miss. Mensi will be back in action this winter ramping up for her final outdoor campaign and before she begins to chase national marks it's important to look back on what we witness in the spring of 2022. A forty year record was broken in consecutive days by multiple throwers. Crazy. Can't wait to see where this mark sits in six months from now.
