Grant Campbell's full record setting series of jumps at the Volunteer Track Classic breaking Eric Drapers previous mark of 7-2 set in 1996.
2023 Moments Of The Year
US #21 All-Time
I went back and forth with the final three in the countdown as they all have a legitimate case to be made for the top Moment of 2023 but ultimately chose Grant Campbell's high jump season because of the totality of his body of work. First of all, it was the highest ranking performance nationally coming in at #2 overall, he eventually beat the only person ranked ahead of him, Riyon Rankin, in direct competition at USATF U20s, and he would then go on to win the U20 Pan Am Championship.
Furthermore, while most people will disagree with me, between 13.32 in the 110m hurdles, 10.13 in the 100m dash, and 7-3.25 in the high jump, I do feel like we, in Tennessee, are less likely to see that mark in the high jump again.
Campbell was committed to play basketball at Freed-Hardenman and even had a signing day scheduled for April 24th. It was quickly postponed shortly after his first seven foot clearance of the season. Three days after Vol Track Classic, he committed to the University of Tennessee.
