Things To Watch

It has been an up and down season for Claire Stegall to say the least. Starts strong at Voyles with a 17:08, deliriously finishes second at Southern Showcase fighting off illness, comes back strong for a couple of races, experiences an Exertional Vagal event at regions and barely finishes the race again, wins state with modest effort to avoid any relapse, and then gets a stomach bug Thanksgiving weekend right before Champs XC. If there were ever an opportunity to finish the season on a high note, this would be it. She is currently seeded 14th overall with a lot of runners around her to pull her to sub-17:00. 

Joining her from Region 6 will be the Brentwood Bruins who LOVE to run at John Hunt Park. For the past two year's they have taken home the Southern Showcase team title and are looking to improve on their 28th place finish in the Gold Division from a year ago. Most of the Bruins have not raced since November 12th and others have not since state. The rest they've received after a 10 event regular season will hopefully be beneficial as top runners Rachel Haws and Lydia Cromwell are one good run away from running under the eighteen minute barrier. There are a handful of other runners right in that low 18 to 18:30 range I'll be excited for to make a run at Sub-18 as well as the girls from Brentwood.
