This past Thursday in Nolensville, Independence Senior Nyla Mackey notched her fifth victory of the season at the Willco Championships in the open sprints with a TN #5 overall time of 25.56. On the season it was her second victory in 200m dash with her other three coming in the 100 meter. Her season's best 12.52 was posted in a race when she placed third at Scott Hartman where she lost to two runners out of division but beat the defending Large Division I State Champion Whisper Thomas. She currently sits TN #11 in that event.

So at this point you may be saying to yourself, "Why have I never heard of her before?" Well there are two reason. First, she was listed as Nyla Bell last season. Second, she's never qualified for state before in an open event. Independence did send two sprint relays to Murfreesboro last season of which the 4x200m placed 8th overall. Out of speculation, I assume she was part of both of them. Coming into the year she was ranked 29th in the 200m and 26th in the 100m. Needless to say, she's exceeding projections so far this season.
