TSSAA State Preview: A Look at Memphis Area Top CC Boys

D2 - AA Boys

The D2 large school boy's division is basically Christian Brothers. At the Region meet, their athletes placed 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 5th, 7th, 9th, 15th. Worse finish for the 7-member team was 15th! They made 18 points. That's close to perfect. Close. Memphis University School was the only one to try and put up a challenge, and they had 57 points.

The Brothers getting that low point total included Jake Ryan who ran a 16:30 but has a PR of 16:15 on the same course. Their next fastest for the Brothers at the meet were Parker Russ (16:42), Kaleb Smith (16:44), Brett Barron (17:12), Alex Grusin (17:34), and Ben Evangelisti (17:58).  The time Parker got at the Region meet was about one second better than his previous PR.

Caleb Skinner of MUS matched his rankings in this D2AA region by getting third overall with a time a few seconds slower than his PR but still up there as one of his top times of the season so far.  St. Benedicts Daniel Leoni was able to squeeze into the 6th place overall in a time of 17:14.  Briarcrest senior, Drew Sullivan was able to set a new PR and break into the 17-minute mark with his 17:58.2. Drew basically tied CBHS's Ben Evangelisti with that time. If you look at the results from this Region meet Tuesday, you will notice several very tight finishes. I counted 5 different groups that finished with identical or at least very close to the same times! That's some tight finishes for sure!

But I have to say, the CBHS boys certainly are a strong bunch. If they can keep their focus, do the training as they should, maintain their concentration on their goals, and remember to do the right things leading up to the State meet, who knows what this bunch is capable of accomplishing.
