Week 6 Highlights: State Qualifying, Frank Horton, McCallie

Other Notes from around Tennessee

McCallie Invitational

McCallie defended their turf on Saturday morning without needing a tiebreaker over Baylor. The current season series, if you want to call it that, is 1-1. These teams will race at least one more time at FrontRunner's prior to the state meet.

Sequatchie County's Carter Bradford, defending Small Division I 1600m Champion, ran a TN #14 15:38 on his way to a third place finish. He doesn't have many races on his calendar as the school system suspended athletic competition earlier this year due to illness.

Baylor Girl's eked out a five-point victory of homeschool program CSTHEA but more importantly beat GPS by 21. The team race in Division II is heating up as you'll see as we touch on some other meets.

Bristol Cross

Freshmen swept the boy's divisions on Saturday. TN #1 Keegan Smith notched his 2nd victory of the season with a 15:44 in the small school division while Bearden's Cade Crum won his first with a 16:41.

On the girl's side, Science Hill's Trinny Duncan and Knoxville Ambassadors' Savannah Rivera both won their divisions while also leading their team to division victories as well. It was Duncan's 2nd victory of the season in as many weeks crossing the finish line in 19:05.

Wingfoot Classic

In Georgia on Friday, Webb School of Knoxville's Jazzlyn Garmer placed 5th with an 18:35 while twin sister Calysta placed 10th in 19:01. While I don't think Webb this year can really challenge Harpeth, Baylor, and GPS in the division, these sisters will have something to say about how the top individual medals are handed out in Class AA.

DJs, Mullets, and Cross Country. The combination I didn't know I needed.
