On the Brink:

This weekend's calendar has 2 meets scheduled, one two mile time trial, and a total of 41 teams registered to compete. Compare that to this same weekend last year where there were 6 meets hosted in state, 62 teams scheduled to compete, and a slew of higher profile teams traveling out of state to race. Those out of state meets this year have been cancelled or are so heavily restricted that unless your county borders the hosting state, your school cannot register.

The TSSAA COVID19 Regulations and Rules Modifications are as follows:


While I'm usually first to criticize the TSSAA, these rules are intended to ensure the safety of our athletes, coaches, and their families and preserve the continuation of this season through to completion and I encourage everyone hosting, racing, or attending a meet to follow them as closely as you can. Let's just be fortunate we don't live in Virginia. Even though the meets may be smaller than in year's past, the meaning is far greater and while there are races to report on, we'll try to bring you as much content as we can.

At last weekends' Music City Distance Carnival, Jenna Hutchins ran a 9:49.83 in the 3200m run: an All-Time Mark.Promptly after her race concluded, the lights on the track went out. I assume that since Lipscomb resides in the middle of residential area, there are strict guidelines the school's stadium must adhere to however I'm hoping this isn't a metaphor for the season that is about to get underway.
