Tanner Henry: Why I Chose Wofford

Tanner Henry felt at home with the Wofford Track and Field program.

The Dobyns Bennett senior took visits to a handful of schools, including nearby ETSU and UNC Asheville. But Wofford reminded him of his high school program.

"The relationship between the two coaches at Wofford reminded me of my two coaches at Dobyns Bennett, Coach Bingham and Coach Barrett. I knew I would respond well to their personalities," Henry said in an interview with Tennessee MileSplit this past week.

"Wofford made me feel at home."

On his visit, Tanner was impressed with the entire school.

The coaches and the program itself were great. But he was blown away by the resources at his disposal as a student.

That was enough to seal the deal.

"Wofford was the best fit for me because I wanted a spacious campus but a small student population," he said. "I feel like it had the total package, a beautiful campus, a positive academic experience, and a successful track program."

Tanner says that the deciding factor was his relationship with the coaches. He felt like they wanted him to improve as a student first and an athlete second. Their interest in him as a whole made a big difference.

The official visit made a huge impact too.

"I really liked my official visit, staying in the dorm and hanging out with the guys," he said. "The athletes and non-athletes were very friendly. The campus, dorms, restaurants, and facilities were all amazing."

When he gets to school, Tanner plans on studying business.

But before he can start his collegiate career, he's got one more season of high school track left.

Last year, Henry finished fourth at the Division I Large Schools state meet in the high jump.

He jumped 6-6 at the KYA HS Indoor Classic to set a new personal best earlier this season. But that's just the beginning.

Tanner said he's focused on setting a few more career-bests this season in the high jump and the triple jump before he joins the Terriers.
