Sasha Neglia has never raced indoor track before.
She changed that on Saturday.
And she marked her first race with a win.
The Nike Nationals All-American and Dobyns Bennett junior opened her season with a 2:17 800 meter run at the KYA HS Indoor Classic. It was her first 800 since her win last April at the Texas Roadhouse Relays. She ran 2:18 in that race.
After the race Sasha said she felt pretty good. She also didn't have any expectations or race plans going in.
"I didn't really have any expectations because it's really early so I think that really helped with my mind, just doing whatever and seeing what happens," she said.
Sasha tied her personal best with her win. She also ran 2:17 back in March of 2017 at the Hardin Valley Invitational.
Despite the early season racing, she didn't need to worry about getting excited to race.
She's always ready to compete. Even in early January.
"I really like being competitive and stuff so I'm always ready for it," she said.
As she transitions from cross country to indoor track, Neglia is taking things day by day. She doesn't have any specific goals for indoor, she said. But she does have a few time goals for outdoor season.
She's in no hurry to worry about that.
Her training right now is pretty simple. Some speed work, but nothing too complicated.
She'll be ready for a big outdoor season soon.
"I'm just really getting back the basics."
