The Tennessee Sports Writers Association named their 2018 All-State Track Team earlier this week. You can find the full list here.
Athletes were named All-State in three classifications: Large Schools, Small Schools, Division II-A & Division II-AA . Each event had three athletes recognized as all-state performers.
Brentwood led the way with six all-state selections in the Large Schools classification. Jett Kinder was named to the all-state team for three different events: decathlon, high jump and pole vault. Bruins thrower Katherine Coffey was also recognized for her outstanding season in both the shot put and discus. Hardin Valley Academy sprinter Willington Wright was recognized for his outstanding season in the triple jump and 400 meters.
The Hawks also had lots of athletes recognized, including mid-distance stars Kenton Bachmann, Ellie Bachmann and Kensi Gray.
Brainerd senior Joseph Norwood was one of the stars of the Small Schools division. He was honored as an all-state participant in the decathlon, 400m, triple jump and long jump. Like they did at the state meet, Pearl Cohn cleaned up. The Firebirds were all across the all-state team, including Nickson Pierre (200m & 400m), Elijah Simmons (Shot Put & Discus) and Corey Moseley (Shot Put). And on the girls side, East Nashville took home lots of honors. Jalena Curbeam and Jalyn Rice were both recognized for outstanding seasons in the long and triple jumps.
All three members of the Small Schools 100m Hurdles All-State team were from East Nashville. Including Kennedi Johnson, Keylmer Cruz and Curbeam. On the distance side, Dresden's Loral Winn highlighted the all-state team for both 800 and 1600 meters.
In DII-A, Harding Academy's boys led the way with ten selections on the All-State team. And Harding's girls cleaned up too. They had 11 picks to the All-State team.
Brentwood Academy, who was the top team in all of the divisions combined at the state meet, led the way with 13 selections to the DII-AA boys All-State team. That included a couple of picks for Vanderbilt football signee Camron Johnson. The Eagles also had all three members of the 3200 meter team: Matthew McMillan, Matthew Porter & George Payne. The Lady Eagles had 12 selections in the girls DII-AA team.
