The Nashville City Championships are in full swing! And so far, it's a tight competition at the front of the pack with metro's public and private schools battling for bragging rights.

On the guys side, Montgomery Bell Academy is currently in the lead heading into the running events. The Big Red are looking to compete for a podium spot in DII-AA, and have fared well so far against metro competition. McClain Portis won the high jump with a mark of 6-2 and the long jump in 20-2.75. Portis and Hugh Sullivan placed second in third in the pole vault as well.There's just one more night of competition remaining in the 2018 Nashville Track & Field Championships. And after two days of field events on Tuesday and Wednesday, it's gearing up to be a great finish.

But Pearl Cohn, one of the leading contenders in D1-A, is not far back. The Firebirds are just six points off the pace set by the Big Red. Elijah Simmons and Corey Mosley going 1-2 in the shot put is a big reason why. Simmons also added a win in the discus, throwing 153-06 to total 20 points for his team.

Ensworth has a big lead in the girls competition so far. The Tigers have accumulated 50 points to lead their Division II rivals -- Harpeth Hall and Lipscomb Academy.
Dontavia Waggoner and Jillian Gray went 1-2 to secure 18 points for Ensworth in the shot put. Zoe Williams won the triple jump with a mark of 35-01.5. So they're off to quite a strong start.
