Last Year
The 2016 installment of the MSCCA Championships featured a venue change to Dickson, Tennessee.
Brentwood High School's top three runners paced the field in the AAA boys race. The field was led by Brodey Hasty and the Vroon Brothers, who led Brentwood to a 1-2-3 finish.
They were followed by Brentwood Academy's Carter Cheeseman and Henry County's Titus Winders.
Ravenwood senior Annika Sleenhof won the girls race with a time of 18:11. Meredith Helton is the top returner in this year's meet. She finished second last season with a run of 18:55.
The Brentwood High boys were team winners, followed by Brentwood Academy. On the girls side, Helton's second place finish led BA to a runner up finish, 22 points behind Ravenwood.
Top Contenders
Titus and Silas Winders are still undefeated this year.
In fact, the only runner Silas has lost to is his brother. The duo from Henry County will look to extend their run of 1-2 finishes.
But they'll be challenged by Centennial's Davis Bove, who broke 16 minutes at Jesse Owens last weekend. Bove comes in with the second fastest time in the field at 15:47.
Outside of Bove and the Winders brothers, there are three other runners that have broken 16 this season. They are McKlain Kirkpatrick, David Ahlmeyer and Matthew McMillan.
The girls race should also feature a tight competition at the front. Landri Wilcox, Meredith Helton and Sadie Cook have all run under 19 minutes this season.
Wilcox comes in as the favorite, having run 18:07 last weekend at Jesse Owens. The freshman is looking for her sixth win of the season, running a busy schedule this year across the state.
Helton, on the other hand, brings a wealth of experience to her fourth MSCCA Meet. She placed sixth at the Wingfoot Classic with a time of 18:23, which was a big personal best.
Team Race
Both team competitions should be tight. Brentwood Academy holds a slight advantage in the boys race.
The Eagles have the potential to get five runners in the top 25, which is key for their chances of holding off Oakland. The Patriots, on the other hand, will rely on its front three to run together at the front.
David Carlton, Brice Walkowski and Ryan Phillips all have the potential to finish in the top ten. If that trio has a big day, then Oakland has a shot to take home the AAA team title.
The girls competition will feature a trio of Williamson County Teams vying for the title. Ravenwood, Brentwood and Brentwood Academy all have an excellent chance of taking the meet.
Jamie Blaylock and Alex Rosen could finish in the top ten and give Ravenwood a big boost. But Brentwood's duo of Caroline Cherry and Kaitlyn Vanderkolk will be in the front pack as well.
BA will rely on Helton to lead the way at the front, and if she brings teammates with her, the Eagles have as good a shot as anyone else.
