BOARD OF CONTROL MINUTES

Hermitage, Tennessee

November 12, 2007

 

1. Roll Call

 

2. Approved Minutes of the Last Meeting

 

3. Instructed the state office to make the draw in Division I Wrestling and not release the draw until the Sunday preceding the Division I State Wrestling Tournament. 

 

4. Heard the report of the 2007 Regional Meetings.

 

5. Heard a review of the 2007 Fall Sports Tournaments

 

6. Approved the proposal from the Tennessee Athletic Coaches Association 

 

The proposal from TACA requests admission for TACA members to all TSSAA championship events.  This goes into effect beginning with the Division II BlueCross Bowl games on Saturday, November 24.  The proposal then moves forward with TACA taking responsibility for the hospitality rooms at the Girls’ and Boys’ State Basketball Tournaments in 2008 and the responsibility for the hospitality room at the Football Championships beginning in 2008.  

 

7. Approved membership request of Hardin Valley Academy in Knoxville.

 

8. Discussed request from Collegedale Academy to change the date of the state cross country meet.  The Board instructed the state office to gather further information in regards to the availability of the Steeplechase course and they would discuss it at the January meeting.

 

9. Discussed heat issues as related to practice of fall sports in August.  The Board asked the state office to gather additional info and bring it back for further discussion at the January meeting.

 

10. Finalized the timeline regarding the application process, interview process, and selection of the individual for the TSSAA Assistant Director position.

 

11. Voted to use Fall 2008 enrollments for the purposes of classification if they are available.  If not, the Board voted to use enrollment figures from December 2007.

 

In regards to classification, voted to not count the enrollments of member schools that only participate by forming a co-op with other schools.

 

12. Voted to host in conjunction with the Division I Dual Meet Wrestling State Championships in Clarksville, an invitational meet for girls’ wrestling teams.  Currently there are four schools, with the possibility of two additional schools, that are interested in having a girls’ wrestling team this year.

 

13. Heard the Litigation Report

 

14. Voted to not permit any live telecast or videostreaming of tournament games, events, matches at any level prior to the state tournament or championship event.
