The first ever Tri-Cities Track Classic started off with a bang

The first ever Tri-Cities Track Classic started off with a bang and would continue to have sterling marks over two days (April 19-20) at Science Hill High School’s Kermit Tipton Stadium. The meet began with 2000 US Olympian Tony Cosey starting his Olympic event, the steeplechase. Fans were in for a treat as athletes did their best to navigate the barriers and the water jump. Hannah Rhodes of Greeneville (8:09.02) and Hayden Borghetti-Metz of Volunteer HS (6:37.08) were the first to take home champion plaques leading the way for the rest of the competition. Meet MVP’s were Evan McCracken of Cherokee HS winning the Shot Put (54-05.00) and the Discus (155-03) winning for the boys and Nora McKiver of T Wingate Andrews taking the 100m Hurdles (14.64) and 300m Hurdles (45.37). The girls team race was dominated by meet hosts Science Hill with a 82.50 lead over second place rival Dobyns Bennett. The boys team was a very tight battle coming down to the 4X400 to close out the meet. Going into the race Spring Valley was down by 3 points and needed to beat Fork Union Military Academy by at least 2 places to take the lead and the meet win. With a dominate run by the Spring Valley quartet (3:22.50) to win (10 points) and a 3rd place run by Fork Union Military Academy (6 points), Spring Valley won by one point. Come join us next year and try to take home the triangle medallion!
