Meet Information

The State Cross Country Meet will be held at the Percy Warner Steeplechase Cross Country Course in Nashville, Tennessee. As voted by the coaches and approved by the TSSAA Board of Control, the State Cross Country Meets will be 5 Kilometers (3.1 Miles).

In Division I, the first ten finishers in the regional meet in each class shall qualify for the state meet. In addition, other members of the top three teams in each classification beyond the first ten finishers shall also qualify for the state meet. No school shall qualify more than seven runners for the state cross country meet.In Division II Class A, the first 10 finishers in the regional meet in each class shall qualify for the state meet. In addition, other members of the top four teams shall also qualify for the state. No school shall qualify more than seven runners for the state cross country meet.In Division II Class AA the deadline for submitting entries online is October 24, 2014 (Click here for the Online Entry Form.). No school shall qualify more than seven runners for the state cross country meet.

TEAM PACKETS WILL BE AVAILABLE FOR COACHES TO PICK UP ON FRIDAY, PRIOR TO THE STATE MEET, AT THE COURSE WALK-THROUGH. If you pick up your team packet on Friday, you will not need to check in again on Saturday. If you do not pick up your packet on Friday, it will be available at a participating school tent that is set up outside the meet area on the Southeast side of the course, and you will need to check in at this tent. All participants will receive passes which will allow them to be admitted into the event. Coaches of participating teams will also receive passes that will allow them into the event. The team packet will be given to the TEAM coach. We cannot allow participants to pick up passes individually. The team packet will contain a bib number and a hip number for each athlete, pins, a map of the course, box assignments, and additional guidelines concerning the meet. In Division I, participating teams will receive a bib number and a hip number for each athlete and three passes for the coaches.

In Division II, participating teams will receive a bib number for each athlete and three passes for the coaches.

In Division I, individual runners will receive a bib number and a hip number for each athlete and two passes for the coach. In Division II, individual runners will receive a bib number for each athlete and two passes for the coach.

Every coach and participant MUST have a pass and each athlete MUST have a bib number in order to enter through the gate.

The 2014-15 Championship Event Card will provide complimentary admittance for the state meet. Each member school received two event cards. This card admits ONLY ONE PERSON PER CARD. The TACA card will provide complimentary admittance for the state meet and this card admits ONLY ONE PERSON PER CARD. These are the ONLY acceptable cards/passes for complimentary admittance to the state meet.

Runners will be allowed to preview Percy Warner Park Steeplechase Cross Country Course on Friday prior to the state meet. The course will be open from 3:00pm CST until 5:00pm CST only. Coaches are asked to supervise their student-athletes and make sure the course is maintained because it will already be set up for the meet on Saturday. We need all coaches to make sure that their team does not show up earlier than 3:00pm CST and are gone by 5:00pm CST. Jim Kaiser will be the individual in charge of the course inspection on Friday, and everyone must follow his directions. Team Packets will be available for coaches to pick up at the course walk-through on Friday. Picking your packet up on Friday, prior to the meet, should give you more flexibility with parking and coordinating the arrival of your team on Saturday.

Schools are responsible for making their own hotel arrangements. There are hotels located at the I-65/Harding Place Exit and the I-65/Old Hickory Blvd. Exit, which are close to the State Meet. Hotels offering special rates for the state meet are as follows:

CROSS COUNTRY REGULATIONS
I. GENERAL REGULATIONS

A. For cross country competition, TSSAA schools shall be divided into two classes in Division I (A-AA and AAA) with eight regions per class and two classes in Division II (Class A and AA).

B. The cross country course shall be three miles or five kilometers (5K) in distance for boys and girls. No contestant will be permitted to enter a meet if the contestant is not accompanied by a person meeting Article I, Section 9 of the Bylaws. Rules governing cross country shall be those as published by the National Federation of State High School Associations as found in the Track and Field Rulebook.

II. TEAMS
A team will consist of a minimum of five and a maximum of seven. However, if a school does not have a team it may enter less than five runners in the individual division of the meet. No school shall enter more than seven participants in the regional cross country meet. In Division I and Division II Class A, a maximum of 10 people may be listed on the entrance form, any seven of which may run at the regional meet. Should the team qualify for the state meet, any seven of the 10 may run in the state meet. In Division II Class AA, a maximum of 10 people may be listed on the state entrance form, any seven of which may run at the state meet.

III. REGIONAL MEETS
In Division I and Division II Class A, regional cross country meets shall be held the week of the last Saturday in October. The cross country course at the region meet shall be three miles or five kilometers (5K). At the regional cross country meet each year, the coaches involved shall select the site of the following year's regional cross country meet and the director.

If at the completion of the regional meet it is discovered that a participant who had not been entered in the meet for a team illegally entered the course and crossed the finish line, the illegal participant and all members of the team are disqualified. No member of the disqualified team would be allowed to participate in the state meet.

IV. STATE MEET
The state cross country meet shall be held the first Saturday in November. The cross country course at the state meet shall be five kilometers (5K). In Division I, the first 10 finishers in the regional meet in each class shall qualify for the state meet. In addition, other members of the top three teams in Division I beyond the first 10 finishers shall also qualify for the state. In Division II Class A, the first 10 finishers in the region meet shall qualify for the state meet. In addition, other members of the top 4 teams beyond the first 10 finishers shall also qualify for the state meet. In Division II Class AA, teams and/or individuals must be submitted online by Friday of the last full week in October. No school shall qualify more than seven runners for the state cross country meet.

V. ENTRANCE FORMS
In Division I and Division II Class A, the standard entrance form must be in the hands of the meet director and in the state office no later than Monday preceding the regional meet. Schools that do not file the entry form with the meet director by or on that Monday shall be charged $25.00 for each day they are late in order to enter the meet. The penalty check shall go to the meet director in order to cover meet expenses. Directors will forward entrance forms for all contestants that qualify to the state director.

VI. TROPHIES AND AWARDS
In the Division I and Division II Class A regional cross country meets a championship and runner-up plaque will be presented and medals shall be presented to the first-, second- and third-place finishers. In the Division I and Division II state meet trophies will be awarded to the team winner and team runner-up in each classification and medals to the winning and runner-up teams. Individual medals shall be awarded to contestants that finish 1-15 in the state meet.
