Former American record-holder joins Milligan track staff

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (Oct. 14, 2005) — Two-time world champion and professional track star Rohsaan Griffin has been hired as an assistant coach to help Milligan expand its track and field program. Both men's and women's teams will now compete in the sprint, jump, hurdle and throwing events, in addition to the distance events Milligan has participated in for several years.

Griffin, who is originally from Texas and now resides in Elizabethton, is a two-time NCAA Champion at Louisiana State University, a former American record holder at the 200 meters indoors, and a member of both the indoor and outdoor world championship track and field teams.

He previously held professional endorsement contracts with Asics athletic footwear and Oakley sunglasses and assisted in the development of the Asics Cyberflash sprint shoe, one of the most revolutionary track and field shoes on the market today.

"We're thrilled to have someone with Rohsaan's experience on our coaching staff," said head coach Chris Layne, who has helped the Buffaloes earn 63 national championship qualifiers in just five seasons at the helm of Milligan's cross country and track programs. "He will be an incredible asset to the development of our student-athletes."

Layne will recruit 12 to 16 additional male and female athletes a year for the track and field program.

"The success of our distance athletes, along with the addition of outdoor track in the AAC, has made this program expansion an obvious move for our athletic department," said Layne.

Milligan College has a long tradition of athletic success, with 14 intercollegiate sports in the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) and National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). In the past 10 years, Milligan has won 28 conference titles and made 34 national tournament appearances. For the past six years, the athletic program has won the All-Sports Trophy for the most successful overall athletic program in the conference.
