TSSAA BOARD OF CONTROL MINUTES August 16, 2010

1. Approved the June Board of Control Minutes

2. Board of Control voted to authorize the Executive Director to select sites and make plans for conducting regional and state tournaments or meets in golf, tennis, cross country, track and field, baseball, softball, volleyball, wrestling, soccer, and bowling.  

3. Approved the Financial Report of Baseball

4. Approved the Financial Report of Softball

5. Approved the Financial Report of Soccer

6. Approved the Financial Report of Track and Field

7. Approved the Financial Report of Tennis

8. Approved the Spring Fling Report

9. Approved the Auditor’s Report of the 2009-10 School Year

16. Voted to pay the first year’s membership fee to the National Federation Coaches Association ($30.00) for our state recipients.  

17. Heard Report on Officials’ Basketball Camps

18. Approved the Financial Aid for the 2010-2011 School Year

19. Heard Update on Regional Basketball Sites for the 2010-2011 School Year

20. Heard Update regarding LRG (Licensing Resource Group).  

21. Voted to extend the contract for the BlueCross Bowl (State Football Championships) with the city of Cookeville and the Putnam County Chamber of Commerce for an additional two years.  The current contract expires after the 2010 championships, so this extends the contract through the 2012 championships.

22. Heard Update on Basketball Bid Proposals.  Voted that bids for the state basketball championships will be heard at the January 2011 Board of Control meeting.

23. Reviewed the Administrators’ Meeting Schedule for 2010-2011

24. Approved Summit High School’s Request for Membership in TSSAA in 2011-12

The new school will be located in Williamson and is planning to open in August 2011.  The school will open with grades 9-10 and add a grade each year.  Their projected enrollment is 600-800 students the first year with approximately 200-250 additional students each year as grades are added.  

They plan to offer all TSSAA sanctioned sports at the varsity level.  They will be placed in Class AA, District 12 in football, basketball, baseball, softball, and volleyball.  Football would be placed in 4A since the projected enrollment would be between the current 4A enrollment numbers of 805-1,065.  Summit will compete in District 11, Class A-AA in cross country, golf, girls’ soccer, soccer, and tennis.  They will compete in Class A-AA middle in track, District 8 in bowling, Region 6 in individual wrestling, and Region 7 in dual meet wrestling.

25. Heard Update Regarding the TSSAA Network

Voted to reduce fees applied to schools for doing a live telecast or videostream during the postseason if they do so by utilizing the school program available through the TSSAA Network (www.tssaanetwork.com).  The normal fee for football playoffs is reduced from $750 to $350; the fee for basketball sectional games if normally $500 and will be reduced to $250.  For sectional games and tournaments for any other sport, the normal fee of $300 is reduced to $150.  

The TSSAA Network also announced announces a multi-year partnership with the seven (7) Tennessee Public Television Council (TPTC) stations for live distribution of all football and basketball championships, as well as tape-delayed distribution of other state championships.

During the three (3) year agreement, all Division I football and basketball championships will continue to be broadcast on live TV, but for the first time, all Division II football and basketball championships will also air on live TV across the state.  In addition, at least 17 additional state championships, including boys and girls soccer, volleyball, and track & field, will air on a tape-delayed basis across the state.

All championship events will be streamed, live and free of charge, at www.TSSAANetwork.com.  The website will also offer on-demand viewing and DVDs available for purchase at the conclusion of each event.

Authorized Approval of the Request by Hunters Lane if the Executive Director can obtain signatures/approval by other schools in the Regions involved.  Request is that the region basketball tournament for Region 5-AA and 6-AAA be held at one site and not go to satellite sites for the opening round, with alternating girl’s and boy’s games on the first two nights then continuing, per TSSAA bylaws, for the semifinals and finals.
