Rumble In The Jungle Jamboree
Miles Nesmith - Memphis Central
If you're tired of hearing about horizontal jumpers from Memphis Central, check back in three years because even though Zavien Wolfe, state record holder, graduated last spring, his record may not stand for much longer. Meet sophomore Miles Nesmith who, at this same meet last year went 37-7, gained nearly 10 feet since and opened his sophomore outdoor season with a US #1 for the Class Of 2026. The furthest mark ever by a sophomore for this event in the state is 47-11.25 which was posted in 2007 by Derrick Davis of Lavergne. Will be fun to watch him chase that mark and if he can maintain his position in the national standings.

Karlos Humphreys - Houston
If you're running 50.36 as a sophomore, as Karlos Humphreys did in 2022, you would think you might focus on that event. But in Section 4, you may want to find another event. Humphreys spent his junior season dabbling in the 300m hurdles but it never clicked to a point where it could become a focus either. After Saturday, it may be evident he's found his best event. The senior won the 200m at Rumble In The Jungle with a 21.86, a near half second PR faster than his previous best. In the absence of Ware, everyone is jockeying for position in Section 4 and right now, Humphreys sits on top of the 200 distance.

Payton Sipos - Knoxville Catholic
In this article last year we drew attention to Pennsylvania transplant Callie Wetzel who won this event and went on to win the state title for Division I Class AA two months later. Payton Sipos of Knoxville Catholic just might keep that trend going after winning on Saturday. In her debut last season she ran 16.81 and on Saturday, even with a forgettable ninth hurdle, ran nearly a second faster with a 15.87. She finished 4th in this event as a freshman with a couple returning ahead of her but without Culbreath she's not far off the leader, Sarah Reynolds, from Harpeth Hall.
