Notable Performances Beyond The Winners At TN State Indoors

Seven Pettus - Oak Ridge

Like Taylor, its surprising we've not interviewed or featured Seven Pettus at some point considering she swept the 100m and 200m at the Section 1 Championships a year ago. Yesterday, the senior from Oak Ridge looked ready to defend after qualifying for both short sprint finals and finishing 5th in the 60m and running a 25.55 in the prelims of the 200m, her best time indoors and just .2 off her best time outdoors. She finished 7th and 11th a year ago in the 100m and 200m dash but after yesterday I'm having a hard time finding that many names to keep her in those placements in May.

Memphis East 4x400m Relay

Of the thirty schools that are classified as Division I Class AA or Class A, only 30 schools have ever run under 3:28 (52 second average per runner) for the 4x400m relay outdoors. The last three winning times for Class A at the state championship were 3:26, 3:28, and 3:26. Yesterday, the quartet (from left) of Jason Smallwood, Mgee Ali, Anson Blackburn, and Shannon Hughes ran 3:27.59. This is over a ten second improvement from their best effort in this event last spring of 3:38. The fastest time we have for the Mustangs in our database is 3:23.66 from 2017 and if that is accurate, just a second improvement for each leg will give Coach Bowles' kids a new school record.
