Girls 200m Dash
As a sophomore, Zylah Sturdivant placed 3rd in the Division I Class AAA State Championship in the 200m dash but as a junior failed to qualify for the event last spring. On Saturday, she was the top Tennessee finisher in that distance running 25.04 as her fastest effort on the day finishing 3rd overall ahead of several Section 3 competitors who pushed her down to 5th last spring. It's a step in a right direction if she wants to return to the podium before she graduates.

Boys Shot Put
Boys Division I Class AA last spring featured four seniors and three underclassmen. All three of the returners, Kasey Brown of Volunteer, Luke Dark of Anderson County, and Trevor Sinard of Stone Memorial, found themselves in direct competition once again on Saturday with extra in Division company. Brown got the victory with a toss of 56 feet with Dark right behind in the mid 53's. Brown's teammate, Jackson Clonce would finish ninth with a 44-4 and Elizabethton's Zion Reddick would finish just a half inch behind him in 10th. With all four of those athletes in the East Region, it's an early season indicator it won't be easy to qualify out in this event come May.
Tennessee "Transfer Portal"
As a freshman, Khari Webb won the Division I Class AAA State Championship in the 300m Hurdles running a state leading time of 43.41 as a member of White Station High School. On Saturday, she debuted in her new threads donning the maroon and white of Collierville placing 7th in the 60m Hurdles but she wasn't the only one. The runner who finished right behind her in the 300m Hurdles, Abby Miller, formerly of Summit, is now a Brentwood Bruin and Ava Nutter, formerly of Science Hill is now running for Daniel Boone. Miller adds critical points to the Bruins in an event where they scored zero a year before and while Nutter may not have an impact during track season, adding her to a Trail Blazer team that placed 4th a year before puts them in position to make a run at team hardware this November.
Though racing may have lasted until almost midnight, what a great start to the year. Can't wait to see what more this season has in store.
