2023 Moments Of The Year
On The Final Event
The 4x400m relay is always exciting no matter the stakes and every night of Spring Fling this past May, a team championship was on the line heading into the final event.
On Tuesday, Page and Signal Mountain were tied at 65 points a piece after the 3200m run setting up a winner take all race to decide the Divisin I Class AA Boy's Team Championship. Page would secure the title with a runner up finish to Signal Mountain's 6th place finish (Race Video Above). Page would win it's first track and field title in school history. They are now in Class AAA this season.
On night two, a similar scene would play out on the girl's side between The Webb School of Bell Buckle and the defending Division II Class A champions University School of Nashville.
The teams weren't tied but with Webb leading by only three points and USN with the second fastest seed time, the margin for error was low and the stakes were just as high. Webb would with the event and just like Page, secure it's first state title in program history.
A day later, a similar circumstance would unfold in the Boy's Division I Class AAA State Championship. Brentwood would enter the final event with 77 points, just four ahead of Memphis Central's 73. Both teams would line up in the final event of the evening where the Bruins would secure the victory over the defending champion Warriors finishing 3rd to their 6th.
Three titles in three days coming down to the final event of the competition. Doesn't get more dramatic than that.
